Maximus Vogt got his start in Journalism writing for the Arts and Culture section of The Hatchet, George Washington University's student paper. His predilection for fine arts writing exposed him to contemporary art, of which he now studies as an art history major at Colorado State University. As Vogt's passion is to pursue a career in writing on contemporary art, he finds that a journalistic lens allows for a uniquely humane account of artists rather than an outsider’s distance associated with academic writing. Maximus also self-publishes Zines, self-published, short-form magazines. In NineTeeN, a Zine he publishes annually, Maximus produces essays based on memoirs interspersed with his observational drawings. In another Zine titled Mudcake co-authored with photographer Ruby Loesch, Maximus produced writing based on Loesche’s snapshot-style approach to capturing NYC nightlife. Some of Maximus's favorite work on The Hatchet was a dive into the HardCore Punk scene in Washington D.C., reporting on the strong community and long history. As a gallery assistant for the Luther W. Brady Gallery in Washington D.C, he published blog posts based on his research and interviews with artists shown in the gallery. Most recently, while working as an intern for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Maximus was posted on the @metmodern’s Instagram page for his research and writing on a piece in the museum’s collection. At CSU, Maximus currently works as a Collections Manager for the Lory Student Center Arts Program, a Research Mentor at Morgan Library, and a Curatorial Assistant of Exhibitions for the Art and Art History Department. In the future, he hopes to attend graduate school for art history and publish art criticism.
