Many students in Colorado State University’s Journalism and Communications program start their freshman year knowing exactly what they want to do with their degree. Silas Rogers, currently a senior in the program, took a different path. Originally an Equine Science major at the University of Wisconsin, he transferred to CSU following dissatisfaction with his initial choice of college. Due to a series of events including academic struggles and personal injury, he changed his major to Journalism and Communications soon after switching schools. Now entering his senior year, Silas brings an extensive background in creative writing and an understanding of the visual arts to the Ramspondents project. He believes the best way to reach and connect with readers is through a variety of media types and communication approaches. A diverse and community-centered program such as the Ramspondents presents many opportunities for experimentation beyond the traditional methods of news reporting. Its focus on the wide, dynamic community of both CSU and the greater Fort Collins areas provides a readership looking for engagement through stories, which Silas believes his creative background has prepared him for.
