Calvin Masten is a third-year student in the Journalism and Media Communication department at Colorado State University. Calvin has always been interested in the creative and interpersonal aspects of life. He had always found himself enamoured by film, creative writing, interviews, and documentaries, and knew he wanted to pursue a major that worked in what made these things special. After deciding Fort Collins and Colorado State University were the place to go after he graduated from high school, he knew the journalism department would be his home for the next four years. Courses in the journalism department like Newswriting, Video Editing, Photography, and Visual Communication have not only helped to prepare Calvin for the world outside of university, but also to help him figure out the path in the field of journalism he hopes to pursue. While Calvin doesn’t necessarily have a clear idea of where he wants journalism to take him in his future, he has grown very fond of the production side of the craft. When he isn’t working on assignments, he enjoys filming and editing personal videos and vlogs, helping his mother’s middle school with graphic design work, and working on personal creative writing projects. Calvin also enjoys getting outdoors with friends, finding new shows and movies, and trying new baking and cooking recipes.
