Five arrested in gun, drug investigation

All charges are accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
Five suspects were arrested Tuesday, Feb. 3 after a months-long investigation into illegal firearm and narcotics distribution, according to Fort Collins Police Services.
Investigators carried out nine related search warrants on Feb. 3 in Commerce City, Denver, Loveland, Thornton, and Torrington, Wyoming. The operation was led by the department’s Criminal Impact Unit and assisted by neighboring agencies. It resulted in the recovery of multiple illegal narcotics, police said.
Those arrested include Andres Valles, 19; Eugene Montoya, 18; Domicio Vargas, 22; and Christopher Olson-Garcia, 18. Each faces a charge under the Colorado Organized Crime Act, along with additional felony and misdemeanor counts related to weapons, drug distribution, and money laundering.
One juvenile was also arrested in connection with the investigation. No additional information will be released while the case remains active.

Applications open for 20th anniversary of Art in Public Places program

2026 marks the 20th anniversary of Fort Collins’ Art in Public Places initiative. To celebrate this occasion, APP will welcome new artists to the Transformer Cabinet Murals project throughout the year. The murals are scheduled for painting in July and August to help the city reduce graffiti and create colorful art in community spaces.
The program is sponsoring an open competition for artists and teams living in the Growth Management Area. Those interested are encouraged to attend an open houseon Feb. 25, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Center for Creativity, 200 Mathews St. This session will offer application details and include time for a Q&A with the program staff. The deadline to apply is March 4 at 5 p.m.
